Sue Chinn

Training Director

Susan Chinn is the Program Director at the New Organizing Institute.   Previously, she was the Director of Leadership Development at the Center for Community Change, where she helped to develop the Center’s electoral and youth leadership programs. In 2009, she collaborated with the New Organizing Institute and the Reform Immigration for America campaign to design and implement an innovative leadership training model (Movement Building) to train over 1,200 people in 8 states in the skills needed to fight for comprehensive immigration reform.

Before joining CCC, she worked in the field of philanthropy for sixteen years, primarily as the Executive Director of the Discount Foundation, a small private foundation that focuses on alleviating poverty by supporting exemplary programs to improve job opportunities for low-income people.  She also served as a program officer for the Proteus Fund and the Fund 2000, where her grantmaking focused on promoting civic participation.  She spent the first nine years of her career as a community organizer, and founded Parents United for Child Care, a Massachusetts nonprofit dedicated to expanding the supply of quality, affordable child care and out-of-school care.

She has a Masters Degree in History from the University of Illinois.
