Gmail's "Starred" feature is a great way to keep track of what's important in your inbox -- but not all starred messages are created equal. With the default monochromatic star system, it can be difficult to tell the difference between emails you starred because, for instance, you need to reply to immediately versus those where you are waiting to hear back from someone.
Thankfully, Google lets you use multiple styles of star to flag messages. It's simple to turn on, customizable, and can help you keep track of your inbox more efficiently (and colorfully!). Here's how you can get started:
- From the gear menu on the top right of your inbox, select Settings.
- In the General tab, you will see a "Stars" option on the left side
- You can choose between using the default one star, select a set of four stars to use, or make all 12 flagging options available in your inbox.
- Once you've saved your changes, you can now click multiple times on the star icon next to each message to toggle through the star types you've selected.
Voila! Now your inbox is color coded.
