How to Print column headers in Excel

Problem:

You have a spreadsheet you need to print. The spreadsheet is longer than 1 page. You want the first row with the column headers to print at the top of each sheet. Adding a header/footer will not work, because a header spans across columns rather than labeling them.

Solution:

  • In older versions of Excel:  Select Menu > File > Page Setup > select the Sheet tab > specify "rows to repeat" (in this case select your first row, $1:$1).
  • In newer versions: Select the Page Layout tab > Page Setup > select the Sheet tab > specify "rows to repeat at top" (again, in this case the first row, $1,$1 >

Viola! Now your printout will come with the column headers on the top of every page!
