NOI Launches Free Organizing Tip of the Day Email

Right after RootsCamp, I saw this tweet:

I want a @rootscamp every day. So many smart people doing the same work, it's a shame we mostly only meet once a year. #roots10 @MichaelWhitney

When you sign up, you'll receive a short email five days a week. We'll cover all sorts of topics, like new media skills, data tricks, organizing ideas, management practices and much more. It's our effort to help bring you the best ideas, skills and knowledge from a vast network of practitioners.

Here's the first tip (Thanks to Credo's Becky Bond for the contribution!):

Want to get more engagement on your Facebook Page? Here are a few simple steps to build a vibrant community:

  1. Post bold, provocative content 2-3 times per day. Try to get the head of the campaign to write the posts -- to really catch your readers' attention, the content needs to be timely with what's currently happening and have an authentic, authoritative voice.
  2. Write updates that people 'Like.' For example, "Click 'Like' if you think all Americans deserve healthcare." You want to maximize Likes and Comments on your status updates, because Facebook uses interaction to determine how many people see your update in their News Feed.
  3. Respond to the comments and engage directly with your supporters. One of the greatest things about social media is direct, authentic interaction, and people will be more engaged if they know there's a real person who is interested in what they say.
  4. Don't delete negative comments unless they're way off the rails. Your supporters will rally around you and engage even more passionately!

And check out Credo's Facebook Page for an example of great organizational status updates.

Just like RootsCamp, we want your expertise, too! Just comment here (or send an email to tips@neworganizing.com) and help us fill the "Tip Jar." When you send us a tip, we'll do our best to make sure it gets shared with the whole community.

I hope to hear your tips soon!
